Lean-tos

There are more than 70 lean-tos in the area of the City of Rovaniemi. Most lean-tos are located near ski tracks and snowmobile routes, making them excellent spots for taking a break; you can for instance grill sausages or cook coffee in a pan over the campfire. Lean-tos are popular day-trip destinations, as they are some of the few places where you can peacefully watch the campfire, yet being almost in the city centre. There are a number of lean-tos with easy access to enable visits by families with small children and people with disabilities. However, to reach some of the lean-tos, you really have to make an effort.

The city is responsible for maintaining the lean-tos and providing timber throughout the year. The lean-tos experience a particularly busy season with the beautiful weather of early spring time. It is positive that the lean-tos are used a lot, but responsibility is required on behalf of the visitors: please remember to read the guidelines carefully!
