BRP Finland Oy

BRP Finland Oy is a part of the Canadian Bombardier Recreational Products Group. The company manufactures, develops and markets motor-operated recreational vehicles. The Rovaniemi factory focuses on designing and manufacturing Lynx® and Ski-Doo® Utility snowmobiles. The company’s operations include the importing and marketing of other BRP products in both the Baltics and Nordic countries. It also manufactures spare parts, accessories for vehicles and driving equipment for their own snowmobile models.

The manufacturing of Lynx snowmobiles began in Rovaniemi in 1978, when a portion of the production of the company Velsa Oy was transferred from the town of Kurikka to Rovaniemi. The entire snowmobile production was then concentrated in Rovaniemi in 1980, and in 1993 the business operations, in their entirety, were taken over by Canadian Bombardier Inc with the acquisition of the remainder of the company’s capital stock. Bombardier Inc sold the recreational products group to a Canadian-American investment group in 2003 and the new company was given the name Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP).

The company’s considerable investment in a new production plant in Rovaniemi during 2007-2008 is testimony to an excellent choice of location. According to Stig Måtar, the Managing Director of BRP Finland Oy, Rovaniemi possesses the natural preconditions for snowmobile manufacturing: the city is near to important markets, has great testing conditions, a functioning infrastructure and business-orientated administration and a skilled workforce. There is enough snow and demanding conditions to enable an authentic setting for snowmobile development.

"The company has faith in the continuation of this strong growth. The nearly 30-million-euro investment in a new manufacturing facility displays the excellence of the product and faith in the city as an operations environment," Stig Måtar states.
