A local bus ticket discount for students

The city of Rovaniemi has reduced the price of the City Ticket to support students of the area. The 30-day ticket is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase and it provides the right to unrestricted travel in the Rovaniemi center area and in the Saarenkylä area. The price of the ticket has lowered by 14 euros and is now only 26 euros.

Arctic Design Seminar

The Arctic Design –seminar brings together the leading researchers and entrepreneurs of the arctic area to discuss the intriguing challenges the arctic climate and location poses on design. The speakers will present their definition on Arctic Design on a specific viewpoint such as sustainability by Professor Michael Hardt and service design and wellbeing by Professor Satu Miettinen. We will also hear from Tuija Seipell what the million readers of The Cool Hunter expect from arctic design!

Angry Birds and Lappset to work together

Rovio Entertainment Oy, one of the world’s leading mobile game developers, and playground equipment manufacturer Lappset Group Oy have agreed on worldwide collaboration to launch Angry Birds activity parks. Under the agreement with Rovio, Lappset will manufacture play and activity equipment and ready-made activity parks inspired by the Angry Birds characters. The world’s first Angry Birds activity parks will be built next year in Rovaniemi and Espoo in Finland. The City of Espoo has signed a letter of intent for five activity parks.

Rovaniemi to host Winter Swimming World Championships 2014

The International Winter Swimming Association (IWSA) has granted the City of Rovaniemi and Ounasvaaran Latu ry the right to host the Winter Swimming World Championships in 2014. Important factors in the decision included the originality of the location, good traffic connections from all over the world and first and foremost the organiser’s experience in arranging major events.

International magazines rate Rovaniemi highly as Christmas destination

Forbes, Reader's Digest and Tatler have ranked Rovaniemi within their top ten Christmas break destinations. Tatler ranked the Finnish city third, with the capital of the Finnish part of Lapland coming in fourth in the Reader's Digest ranking and sixth in the Forbes one.

New Korundi House of Culture Strengthens Rovaniemi’s Identity

Rovaniemi’s Korundi house of culture was opened to the public on Thursday 26 May 2011. The building’s doors were already opened to visits on Wednesday, when architect Juhani Pallasmaa and U.S. Ambassador to Finland Bruce J. Oreck joined others to commemorate the completion of the building.
